Holidaymakers taken for a ride
Posted Thursday, November 23, 2006 1:02:41 PM by Blog57 Team
A report by the West Sussex County Council Trading Standards that consumers are being 'taken for a ride' by travel companies and budget airlines has been made public. The report says that when these agencies advertise deals on the Internet they make the prices look appealing by not including compulsory extras such as high fuel additions which are added on later. In its investigations of on-line bookings last week it had found incidents of travel and holiday providers advertising offers that seemed too good to be true and usually wound up that way. What were advertised as apparently affordable flights and holidays were eventually increased in rates once certain extras are added. ....

Flyers remain on deserted island

IN THE MOVIE "Click," Adam Sandler's character finds a way to fast-forward himself through the difficult moments of his life with a magic remote control. Is there anyone who knows where the Flyers can get one of those? Because, as it stands right now, that might be the best way to get though the rest of this season, all 67 remaining games. The Flyers, proud owners of the worst record in the NHL (3-11-1), with the worst goals-for to goals-against differential, the absolute worst power play (8-for-91), continued their dismal ways last night with a 3-1 loss to the New York Islanders at the Wachovia Center. Last season, their 11th loss didn't come until Jan. 19. Buffalo comes in tomorrow night. The Sabres are 12-1-1 and beat the Flyers on Oct....

Famous for his blond mohawk and earrings, Bosworth was a star linebacker with the University of Oklahoma who signed an 11 (m) million-dollar rookie contract with the Seahawks. He retired from pro football just three years later with a shoulder injury. He later appeared in several Hollywood movies, including "Stone Cold" and more recently "The Longest Yard" with Adam Sandler. Copyright 2006 Associated Press. All rights reserved. Phillips Auction House, After Shrinking, Grows Again in Boom
Posted Tuesday, September 26, 2006 7:03:17 AM by Blog57 Team
Sept. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Phillips de Pury & Co., which sold a London building to rival auction house Bonhams in 2001, is completing a new space in the world's second-largest art market, funded by profit from the boom. It's a reminder of how cycles in demand cause expansion and contraction. Phillips, run by Simon de Pury from New York, will hold an Oct. 14 sale in 40,000 square-foot quarters near Victoria Station during the Frieze Art Fair, amid a flurry of openings by Jay Jopling's new White Cube gallery, Louise MacBain's art foundation, Hauser & Wirth and Coskun Fine Art. Phillips's sale includes art from the hedge-fund manager Adam Sender, which it won in competition with Sotheby's and Christie's International. Phillips is making a comeback after losing money in a 2000- 2002 battle with Sotheby's and Christie's, the top two auction houses....

Adam Sandler Donates Video Games to Israel While Lebanon Sifts ...

Hollywood funnyman Adam Sandler felt the urgent need to help the people of Israel recover from the 34-day war with Hizbollah and what could be more healing than a Sony Playstation?Four hundred (that's 400) Sony Playstations to be exact. Sandler stipulated that the donated video game consoles are to be distributed only to Israelis whose homes were damaged by Hizbollah rockets in the month-long conflict. The actor's generosity comes after meeting with Israel's consul general in Los Angeles, Ehud Danoch who has been meeting with several Hollywood types including actors and directors as he attempts to spread the word far and wide of the incredible damage to Israeli homes from Hizbollah rockets. Danoch was apparently also very verbose in explaining to anyone in Hollywood who cared to listen, details of the recent but as yet tenuous cease fire....

Following its 34-day war with Lebanon, funny man Adam Sandler is doing his part to help out war ravaged Israel. Not only is he generously donating US $100,000 of his own money, but he's also sending 400 PlayStations to children whose houses were damaged. Because after a war, the first thing you want to do is play some PS2 in your bombed out living room. Brian Ashcraft More Here [JPost] Thanks, Zack! ....

Jessica Biel Joins the Adam Sandler Comedy, I Now Pronounce You ...

It's been a while since Jessica Biel tackled a real comedy movie (her last lead role in that genre was in Summer Catch in 2001) and she's never appeared in an Adam Sandler film. After starring roles in dramas and horror films, Biel appears to be ready for something a little lighter. Biel has landed a role in the Happy Madison production, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. Biel will play Sandler's love interest, an attorney who represents two heterosexual firefighters (Sandler and James) who pose as homosexual partners in order to get domestic partner benefits at work. Director Dennis Dugan (The Benchwarmers, Big Daddy, Happy Gilmore) is helming the film. Source: The Hollywood Reporter ....

Biel's Wedded To Sandler Comedy

Jessica Biel will play the female lead in "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry," a long-gestating comedy set to star Adam Sandler and Kevin James. Given the way "Chuck and Larry" has shed directors and stars in the past, Biel's presence may not be permanent, but she's set to play an attorney who assists the film's two titular characters (yes, Sandler and James), heterosexual firefighters who embrace gay marriage in order to snag domestic partnership benefits. Naturally, sparks eventually fly between the characters played by Sandler and Biel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Universal comedy is set to begin production on Aug. 31 with Dennis Dugan ("The Benchwarmers") at the helm. Dugan stepped in, of course, after David Dobkin ("The Wedding Crashers") exited the vehicle....

You can miss good moments by cruising through life
Posted Tuesday, July 18, 2006 9:02:09 AM by Blog57 Team
I went to see the movie "Click" for two reasons: the trailers made the movie look fun, and Adam Sandler is generally good for a few laughs. The film is supposedly about a man who has a remote control for life (able to pause, fast forward, et cetera), and I thought it would be a two-hour mindless escape from reality. Instead, I walked out of the theater having learned an important life lesson. Without giving too much away, the plot essentially followed a simple scheme: Sandler's character used the remote control to avoid actually living through things he didn't want to do, "fast-forwarding" through boring or stressful moments and pressing "play" when he actually wanted to participate in his life. (Far fetched, but bear with me.) For instance, he would "fast-forward" through work and press "play" at the big promotion; same deal with traffic and subsequent arrival at the office....

Hollywood PrivacyWatch Special Edition: Adam Sandler And Kevin James Do Boystown

Alexander Payne's follow-up* to Sideways, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, is the Backdraft-meets-Boat Trip story of two firefighters who pretend to be a gay couple in order to receive domestic partner benefit. The fake firemen lovers in question are none other Adam Sandler and Kevin James, who, according to a Defamer operative, are either taking their field research very seriously, or just bouncy-shlong crazy and could care less who knows it: Whilst enjoying some cocktails out on the patio of Mickey's in the 'Ho with my faggle, we saw Adam 'Click' Sandler sashaying down Santa Monica with some friends, including bear poster boy, Kevin James (insert King of Queens joke here). Much to our surprise, Sandler and James, along with their posse, sauntered into the club. They stayed on the other side of the room, near the nicely endowed go-go boy....
