MEXICAN director Alejandro Gonzalez Innarritu has put together a complex tale spanning four countries in which one single act sparks off a series of events. Brad Pitt, in a career-best role plays a husband holidaying in Morocco when his wife (Cate Blanchett) is shot on a tourist bus. His attempt to save her in an area devoid of medical care is both moving and tense. Back in their native California, their nanny (Adriana Barraza) is planning to travel to Mexico for her son's wedding but is forced to take the couple's young children with her because of events in Morocco. Meanwhile, in Japan, a deaf-mute teenager is coping with sexual awakenings. While the stories seem disjointed, they are held together by a single incident, the gift of a rifle by a Japanese widower to his Moroccan hunting guide....

Actor Brad Pitt has unveiled a "green" housing design for New Orleans's Lower Ninth Ward and said he was appalled by the slow pace of rebuilding since Hurricane Katrina hit last year. Two New York City architects won a contest, underwritten by Pitt, for an affordable, environmentally sound housing design. Their complex of single family homes and apartments would be built from modular pieces into long houses on a site that connects to the neighboring Mississippi River levee with a wide pedestrian ramp. But Pitt said the recovery would not work if the city did not assure critical services such as schools, and that he did not see much progress in the area that needed it most. "I am appalled and embarrassed that residents still do not have the opportunity ......

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's rare night out on the town at actor Scott Caan's birthday party was almost ruined when the couple narrowly escaped a run-in with Angelina's estranged father, Jon Voight. After taking in an exhibition at an LA art gallery, the couple went on to the Hollywood party but were forced to spend 30 minutes sitting in their car outside, after learning that Angelina's outspoken father was already inside the birthday bash. Brad, who starred alongside Scott in Ocean's 11 and Ocean's 12, finally made his way into the party by himself, prompting Voight to make his exit just minutes later. On hearing that her father had left the building, Angelina finally made her entrance through a back door. Voight became estranged from Angelina in 2002 when he declared publicly that she needed help for what he called "mental problems"....

Though it's just been a few months since Brad Pitt adopted girlfriend Angelina Jolie's kids, but judging by the bond the actor shares with them, it seems they've been together for ages. The doting dad and Jolie's son Maddox are reportedly so inseparable, that the two have found a hightech way of staying in touch with each other when Pitt is away filming. The actor, 42, sends private internet podcasts to Maddox, and in turn Maddox, who'll turn five in a few days, sends films of his paintings and bicycle stunts. "Brad and Mad are so inseparable they need a way to keep in touch when Brad's away," The Mirror quoted a source, as saying. ....

Brad Pitt, Forcing Us To Volunteer

Brad Pitt! What does he want from us? Save Africa, save New Orleans, save the planet -- but we're not like you, Brad, not as able, so show us. (Show us, but keep in mind our budget.) Soon he and Angelina Jolie won't even live on Earth, they'll just dangle above it, in a nursery-equipped Gulfstream IV, sort of the way Brandon Routh's Superman prefers to just float, in the stratosphere, listening acutely, compassionately, for trouble down there, and when he hears it, zoom , down he goes. We were always told that this is what the citizens of the future would do: They would have no fixed address. They would go where needed, constantly, selflessly. ....

NEW ORLEANS After two days of getting his first up-close look at post-Katrina New Orleans, Brad Pitt says that he was shocked at the devastation that remains almost a year later. During a news conference yesterday (Friday), Pitt says he was not prepared for what he saw -- street after street, community after community of devastation. Pitt was in New Orleans to give an update on a project he's promoting -- a competition to choose ecologically sound designs for rebuilding neighborhoods. He's working with Global Green U-S-A -- a national environmental group -- on the design project. Pitt heads a jury of architects, city residents and others who today decided on the top five environmentally-friendly designs out of more than 100 entries submitted by individuals and architect firms....
