| Burt had his jaw broken during filming of this | | Posted Monday, January 29, 2007 1:06:38 PM by Blog57 Team | | I loved this movie and I feel its very under rated. Yes the story was a little on the weak side but there was some fantastic action, good comedy and a wonderful setting. Too bad it didn't do well in the box office because a follow up would have been awesome. User Rating: ** A wasted opportunity. Burt Reynolds' star was just starting to dim when this film was made, but he was still not far removed from major stardom. Eastwood was (and still is!) a major star. So, when this film was made, you had, more or less, two of the biggest stars in the world together in the same film for the first and only time. And often such "dream" pairings don't come off. But it comes off brilliantly in this film. Eastwood and Reynolds in "City Heat" are one of the best comedic pairings I've ever seen AND THEY'RE HARDLY EVER ON SCREEN TOGETHER!!! The film is long, but Eastwood and Reynolds share only about a half hour of screen time! The rest of the film is given over to a story that is confusing, lumbering and boring...and Eastwood and Reynolds apart from each other, or not on the screen at all.... | |

| | | PAT CRAIG: ONE HAND CLAPPING: Paul Williams reconnects with audience | | Posted Thursday, September 28, 2006 11:06:15 PM by Blog57 Team | | FOR BETTER OR WORSE (insert lyrics to "We've Only Just Begun"), Paul Williams wrote the soundtrack to the late '60s through early '80s, with emphasis on the '70s ("Rainy Days and Mondays" and "You and Me Against the World" here). He created "The Rainbow Connection," and the theme from "The Love Boat'" and then "Evergreen." He was the funny little blond guy with the chipmunk cheeks who traded one-liners on a regular basis with Johnny Carson and hung out with Burt Reynolds in the "Smoky and the Bandit" movies. For a while, he was the ubiquitous Mr. Williams. Then he disappeared, mostly into a bottle. "You know you're an alcoholic when you misplace a decade" is how Williams, now sober 15 years, puts it in his publicity material. He's back now, and singing -- bringing his "A Life of Song" show to San Francisco's Empire Plush Room, Tuesday through Oct.... | |

| | | Toby Keith discusses new film, album | | Posted Friday, September 01, 2006 9:10:30 PM by Blog57 Team | | When he brings his "Hookin' Up and Hangin' Out" tour to the Ford Amphitheatre on Saturday, attendees can expect a celebration that is equal parts rock show, patriotic sing-along and commercial for Ford Trucks. Keith played the same Tampa venue in 2004 and more than 15,000 people participated in a beer-soaked bash that recalled the famed Hank Williams Jr. concerts of the 1980s. Keith is most famous for the rabble-rousing patriotic anthem "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue (The Angry American)." The most controversial tune of 2002, it crossed over from No. 1 on Billboard's Top Country Album chart to reach No. 25 on the Hot 100 pop survey and made Keith a mega star. The semi-pro football player turned singer/songwriter also excels with saloon songs, scoring major hits with titles like "I Love This Bar," "Whiskey Girl" and "Get Drunk and Be Somebody," which is from his latest album "White Trash with Money." But Keith will display a gentler side of his oversized personality when he stars in "Broken Bridges," a dramatic film scheduled to be released by Paramount Pictures on Sept.... | |

| | | CHASING EMMY | | Posted Monday, August 28, 2006 7:11:36 PM by Blog57 Team | | The Emmy Awards always spark morning-after controversy. Remember the debates last year about HBO's critically acclaimed The Sopranos getting shut out in major awards, while Everybody Loves Raymond swept top comedy honors? This year has been even more contentious, with the nominations themselves coming under fire as the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences added an extra layer of voting to the process in hopes of including some new faces among the finalists. .... | |

| | | Sex siren’s memoirs | | Posted Friday, August 11, 2006 1:03:29 PM by Blog57 Team | | Unlike other celebrity memoirs, Barbeaus book does not devolve into a gossipy tome, but the chapter detailing her affair with Reynolds is recounted with such personal candour that one ends up feeling sorry for both of them. That was three decades ago, however. She and Carpenter had a son, Cody who is now 22, before their five-year marriage ended in 1984. Eight years later, she married writer Billy Van Zandt, whose brother, Steve Van Zandt plays Silvio on the hit show The Sopranos. But Barbeau does not dwell on her past. When youve got a husband whos always working and young twin boys who are always eager to show you the latest video games, there isnt time to sit back and think how great you are. That fact is especially true, she said as she looked down at her bust line, when I realise the most frequently-asked question I still get is Are they real? Reuters .... | |

Boaters will be able to tie off alongside the new six-foot-wide staging area and wait their turn on the public boat ramps.
