Not surprisingly, some neighbors object, including Matthew Broderick's button-down, uptight leader of the local winter festival. "He's a real Currier & Ives kind of guy, while my character is somebody who's going deep into debt at Home Depot," De Vito says. The actor has played abrasive types before. He rose to fame as Louie DePalma — considered by many as one of the most obnoxious characters in television history — on "Taxi" in the late '70s, picking up an Emmy and three other nominations. He subsequently played similar oily types in such comedies as "Ruthless People" and "Other People's Money." But while "Oh" is every bit as crude and sexually obsessed as "Virgin," it lacks the necessary sweetness to counterbalance its tartness.
