High, verbally committed to MSU on Sunday night after reopening his recruiting search when Mason was fired on Dec. 31. .... | |

| | | Campaign Close-Up: Charles Schwab | | Posted Friday, September 01, 2006 3:19:04 PM by Blog57 Team | | After some intense market research, investment company Charles Schwab, based in San Francisco, determined that investors didn't see much difference among all the financial service companies that were out there, and were disillusioned with what they were hearing. So Schwab launched a unique advertising campaign in late September to set itself apart from the rest of the crowd. Focus: Charles Schwab targets the individual investor by individualizing its campaign. "There is a real, live person, Chuck Schwab, who is a pioneer in this industry and still runs the company," says spokesperson Glen Mathison. The new tag line, "Talk to Chuck," is meant to reunite the Charles Schwab brand around the founder to emphasize that the financial services firm is an approachable, personal company that can offer customers real solutions to their financial problems, while still remaining appealing to an affluent audience.... | |

| | | Top-ten streak continues for Hamlin at The Glen | | Posted Tuesday, August 15, 2006 5:02:36 AM by Blog57 Team | | WATKINS GLEN, NY (August 14, 2006) - Denny Hamlin knew he had a car capable of challenging the leaders Sunday in the AMD at the Glen NASCAR Nextel Cup series race at Watkins Glen. Unfortunately, he never had the opportunity to race them when it mattered as a lap 55 caution shuffled Hamlin back in the pack and left him battling for every spot as the laps wound down. He would eventually settle for a tenth-place finish that keeps Hamlin and the #11 FedEx Racing team very much in the hunt for a spot in the Chase for the Nextel Cup with four races to go. "I am not taking anything away from a top-ten finish, but we had a top-five car for a lot of the race and it would have been nice to race the lead cars at the end," said Hamlin. "That’s how road racing goes, though. A lot of it is being in the right place at the right time but there is nothing you can do when it comes to cautions.... | |

| | | Making progress through a sticking point | | Posted Monday, July 24, 2006 1:11:36 PM by Blog57 Team | | Carol will never forget her time on anti-psychotic drugs. The mother of two was in her early forties when she was detained under the Mental Health Act in 1997. She was diagnosed with a form of schizophrenia known as schizo-affective disorder, and forced to take very heavy doses of anti-psychotics. Even now, she is traumatised when recalling that time. "I was forced to stay in hospital for almost a year and separated from my children for two and a half years," she says. "I accept that I was unwell and out of touch with reality when first admitted to hospital, but the treatment I was given left me in a suicidal despair. The medication made me drool at the mouth and gave me blurred vision. I could not even walk properly." It's a distressing testimony, but now there could be hope on the horizon for those at risk from serious mental illness, thanks to the work of a Scottish professor of psychiatry.... | |

| | | Wish list tossed out | | Posted Sunday, July 02, 2006 5:18:38 PM by Blog57 Team | | The last time the Edmonton Oilers had a trade of this significance, Glen Sather got fleeced by the New York Rangers and his team spent a decade trying to recover. Mark Messier for Bernie Nichols, Louie DeBrusk and Steve Rice doesn't sound any better today than it did then. But The Moose wanted to star on Broadway and Slats, wanting to do right by a long-serving warrior, bit the bullet and granted his request. The lopsided deal sucked the life from a team that was one year removed from the Stanley Cup final. They didn't get close again until 15 years later. Kevin Lowe can't afford to make the same mistake with Chris Pronger. And he says he won't. He doesn't care where Pronger wants to go or whether it'll be a soft landing when he gets there. He isn't keeping the defenceman's camp up to date on negotiations and he had a one-word answer when asked if one of his priorities is making sure Pronger is happy.... | |
