Washington, Oct 25: Hollywood heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio's diamond woes seem to be never ending, with Warner Bros. movie executives now being accused of making false promises to provide prosthetic limbs to orphaned African amputees, so that the studio's "Blood Diamond" movie could get extra publicity. The film which opens December 15 has been slated for highlighting the slaughter and mutilation thousands of innocents by Leone mercenaries who seize diamond mines, and later sell rough gems to buy weapons. While filming the movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly and Djimon Hounsou, producers brought in 27 teenage and child amputees from surrounding hospitals to appear as extras. In addition to paying the children day rates for their work, the producers reportedly promised to fit all of them with prosthetic limbs after shooting wrapped in June....

THE DEPARTED

Matt Damon, left, Leonardo DiCaprio, right, plus Jack Nicholson, Vera Farmiga, Martin Sheen and Mark Wahlberg in Martin Scorsese's tale of betrayals and backstabbings in Boston's Irish mob. "The best film of the year, thus far. Only "United 93' comes anywhere near it. The first hour, in fact, is absolutely electrifying - the fraternal twin of Scorsese's classic "GoodFellas,' about dueling moles in Boston's Irish mob and the state troopers trying to bring them down. The pleasures of watching one of our great living filmmakers - Scorsese - and one of our greatest living film actors - Nicholson - team up for the very first time in their senior years and work at the top of their powers are way beyond those of most other movies. Everyone else in this extraordinary cast was buoyed up by the occasion....

The actor, who has previously dated supermodels Naomi Campbell and Helena Christensen, hopes that he will soon be able to ditch his playboy image and find love."When you're my age and your hormones are kicking in there's not much besides sex that's on your mind," Leonardo told the News of the World. "I do believe in love at first sight, though it hasn't happened to me yet." He added: "I've never been a Romeo who meets a girl and falls for her immediately. It's a slower process for me. I've always been a slow starter." ....

South Africa: A Skop, Skiet And Diamond Thriller

USUALLY, the arrival of the next Hollywood movie is greeted by the corporate sector with one big yawn. However, when Blood Diamond hits the screens later this year, De Beers and the diamond industry will be more than casually interested. Set in Sierra Leone during the bloody civil war of the late 1990s, it stars Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays a diamond smuggler specialising in conflict diamonds. With its inevitable associations between diamonds and the killing of innocent people, this is not the kind of movie that the diamond industry wants to see lingering in the minds of consumers -- especially American consumers, who account for two-thirds of all purchases of diamond jewellery. The movie will probably -- by accident or design -- coincide with the peak Christmas shopping season when most diamond jewellery is bought....

Though it's not much, here is the first image from Edward Zwick's African thriller, The Blood Diamond. In the pic, Leonardo DiCaprio and Djimon Hounsou star as two African-born men, with very different lives, who join together on a quest to recover a rare pink diamond. Release date: December 15 Man, is there a film in which Christina Ricci doesn't look good? Sure, she's got a big forehead, but I feel it just adds to her personality. Here are some more pics from Black Snake Moan; director Craig Brewer's highly anticipated follow-up to Hustle and Flow. Film stars Samuel L. Jackson (what is it with him and these damn snakes?) as a blues musician who rescues a wild child (Ricci) upon finding her beaten and left for dead. Oh, and be sure to check out these nifty little posters over on AICN. Release date: February 16, 2007 [via JoBlo] Based on the novel by Joseph Kanon, The Good German tells of an American journalist is lured into a murder mystery while trying to find his former mistress in post-WWII Berlin....

This J.R. not sexy enough for J.Lo

Uncharacteristically, we begin with an item from the wild world of sport. Our beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders are expecting a sellout crowd as usual for the annual Labour Day Weekend grudge match against the over-rated Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and we are here to inform you that there is absolutely no truth to the ugly rumour that Rolling Stones fans had first crack at the tickets. Having cleared that up, we return to more familiar territory . . . Not a good fit: It says here in the New York Post that Jennifer Lopez beat a hasty retreat from the feature film adaptation of Dallas because playing the role of Sue Ellen Ewing would mean she would be coupled with John Travolta as J.R., and she simply does not find the man sexy enough . . . Reassuring to hear we aren't the only ones who do that: A tip of the hat to Jeannette (The Scoop) Walls of MSNBC, for passing along Gwyneth Paltrow's confession that she, too, is prone to road rage....

Scorsese is following up his latest Oscar snub with a cop drama. There are rumors that this may be his last Hollywood movie, so savor it people. We've got the trailer for his next The Departed, a remake of the Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs. It's Scorsese so he has no problem getting big name talent. Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin, and Jack Nicholson star. The trailer looks beautiful, and Nicholson seems to be completely on his game. And as usual, Leo ends up bedding beautiful women. God I hate that guy. To watch the trailer, just click over to our video page here. Read our preview of this movie. ....

Leonardo DiCaprio plays hero in real life NEW YORK, July 24 (UPI) -- Actor Leonardo DiCaprio recently helped two wheelchair-bound Madonna fans get a better view at a New York concert. One of the fans, Francesco Clark, 28, worked at Harper's Bazaar until a car accident left him a quadriplegic. He had front-row seats to the show thanks to Harper's Bazaar creative director Stephen Gan, The New York Post reported Monday. But, when the show started and Madonna came onstage, the crowd rushed forward and Clark's wheelchair was nearly knocked over. He couldn't see anything because people were all standing around him, writer Elisa Lipsky-Karasz said. He tried to move to the front, but no one would budge, and nobody cared. Then the security guard came over and was being rude and told him to move....

South Africa: Dicaprio Could Help Polish Up Diamond Culture
Posted Wednesday, July 05, 2006 3:06:42 AM by Blog57 Team
YOU might think negative publicity that may come with the release of the movie The Blood Diamond, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, would provide the ideal marketing opportunity for "cultured" diamonds. The world's biggest maker of cultured diamonds, US-based Gemesis, can manufacture stones in just a few days and could easily promote them over natural diamonds on ethical grounds. These manufactured diamonds have never been near a war zone in their short lives. And as they are made in a Florida factory they can't ever be associated with so-called "conflict diamonds", the currency of unregulated trade used to fund wars, mainly in Africa. But Clark McEwan, CEO of Gemesis, doesn't see it that way. McEwan is adamant that promoting cultured diamonds -- diamond giant De Beers calls them "synthetics" -- on their ethical merits would be doing his company a disservice....
