The real truth behind movie stars admiration
Posted Sunday, January 29, 2006 2:24:35 PM by Alex Molin

What is it that we like so much about movie stars? Why are we so interested and sometimes obsessed with how famous movies stars live their lives and how they look in those movie stars photos. Movie starThere are two answers for that question - the first and the simple is that most of these movie stars actually carried out our own dreams.

We all want to be famous but not just famous, but real celebrities, we all want to be rich, beautiful and sexy and we all want to live the good life. But not all of us made it there.

So when we look at these sexy male movie stars who have it all or these amazing looking female movie stars we allow ourselves to fantasize a bit about how it couldn't have been for us.

The other and more complex answer is that we always look for some piece of evidence that will show us that where we are in our lives is better after all.

We like to read about their human shortfalls and how they make humanly mistakes, how they are not really happy with the way things are happening in their lives, how they got divorced, or couldn't have children, or were betrayed by their partners, or became addicted to some drug etc….

Yes I know, it's not nice to say these things, but let's face it, after all we are also only humans and not always nice ones.

The birth of a movie studio
Posted Friday, November 03, 2006 3:33:21 PM by Blog57 Team
In 1919 the biggest Hollywood stars of the era - Charles Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks - and the most successful silent film director, "Birth of a Nation's" D.W. Griffith, seized total control of their movies. Their creation was United Artists Studio. "It was a revolutionary idea for four people of such unparalleled stature in the movie business to band together for their own creative and financial good," notes movie historian Leonard Maltin. "Of course, none of them anticipated the problems that they'd be taking on - like having to provide output for their own company, which turned out to be their undoing." By the mid-1920s, Griffith had left, and the remaining founders had to bring in other ....

The 50 Greatest Movie Stars of All Time

Click on a number in the navigation above to view an image, then click on the image to find out more about that particular star. Are movie stars necessary? Most sensible people, or most people who want you to believe that they’re sensible, would argue that they’re not. But if you hold to the adage that necessity is the mother of invention, you would have to admit that movie stars are indeed necessary, because it was the moviegoing public that created the movie star. Stardom as we currently define it dates back — at least — to the second half of the 19th century. Wire communications and new modes of travel were making fame a more widespread commodity than it had ever been. But the movie industry initially believed it had nothing to do with such things....

Movie stars flock to New Orleans for debut of 'All the King's Men'

NEW ORLEANS (AP): Hundreds of screaming fans on Saturday greeted stars Sean Penn, Jude Law and Kate Winslet at the city's debut of "All the King's Men,'' much of which was filmed here just months before Hurricane Katrina struck. "The city welcomed us with such open arms,'' said Law, who along with Winslet signed autographs for fans jammed near the red carpet outside Tulane University's McAlister Auditorium. "After Katrina, it was even more important that we come here.'' Even before Katrina, Law said there was discussion about holding the event as a way of showing appreciation for New Orleans and the hospitality of its people. Director Steven Zaillian said he couldn't imagine not returning for the movie's debut, following last week's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. "It's something everyone wanted to do,'' he said Friday as he prepared for the trip from New York....

Reel Heroes to Real Heroes & Real Heroes to Reel Heroes

Authors Richard and S. Joy Williams have certainly done their homework in their self-published book Reel Heroes to Real Heroes & Real Heroes to Reel Heroes, the story of movie stars who became war heroes and war heroes who became movie stars. Page after page is well-written about each star/hero including Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Bob Hope, Audie Murphy, James Arness and Lee Marvin. Although many classic fans have heard the stories of some of these brave men, the Williams' break the subjects down into the two groups. Among the "Reel Heroes to Real Heroes" section are autobiographies, tidbits about the star's dealings with particular studios, credible quotes, facts and mentions about the stars' films. This section includes features on Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda, Wayne Morris, David Niven, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Eddie Albert, Louis Hayward, Sabu, Robert Montgomery, Bob Hope, Sterling Hayden and John Howard....

Billy Andrade walked into a movie theater Tuesday afternoon at home in Atlanta without a spot in the PGA Championship. By the time he left ``You, Me And Dupree,'' Andrade -- once the seventh alternate -- had a tee time at Medinah in the year's final major championship. Now he has a share of the 36-hole lead with Luke Donald, Henrik Stenson and Tim Herron at 8-under-par 136, where they sit precariously atop a leader board stuffed with stars and possibilities. ``To be honest, you know I'm not a top-10 player in the world,'' Andrade said. ``Those guys'' -- Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, etc. -- ``they have all the expectations on them. The rest of us are just, you know: `Maybe this will be my week.' '' After learning he would be playing at Medinah, Andrade played a quick practice round in Atlanta, caught a flight to Chicago the next morning and teed off at 7:30 a.m....

Oscar-winning film actress Holly Hunter will make the transition to the fertile grounds of television with U.S. network TNT's new drama Grace. The acclaimed actress is in negotiations to play a jaded Oklahoma City detective who is offered an opportunity to change her life when she is visited by a hot-tempered angel. The cable network ordered the pilot almost a year ago in the hopes that it would mirror the success of another TNT drama centered on a strong female cop, Kyra Sedgwick's The Closer, which shows on Global and the Movie Network in Canada. In related TV news, James Woods will join the ranks of Oscar-caliber actors appearing on the small screen. Woods, a two-time Oscar nominee for Salvador and Ghosts of Mississippi, will star in CBS's procedural drama Shark, which will also air on Global....

MANATEE'S MOVIE STARS
Posted Friday, July 28, 2006 3:02:40 PM by Blog57 Team
You might not recognize many elements of the 1980s television show "Miami Vice" in the film version that opens today. But those who thrive on powerboat racing will recognize the movie's cigarette-style vessels made in southern Manatee County. Donzi Marine has had its sleek offshore boats in films before. But the company's multiplatform marketing approach for this film may help enhance the value of its brand long after the movie moves to DVD. "It was not simply a product placement deal," said Josh Stickles, vice president of marketing. "The imagery we created is exciting and larger than life." Three boats, 38 ZR, 38 ZF and 43 ZR, made the final cut in a movie that also features a Ferrari and a Gulfstream Jet. The company worked jointly with NBC Universal on an advertising campaign to announce in February that Donzi would be the official boat of "Miami Vice." The Donzi Web site hosted some of the first images and video of the movie, which Stickles described as tense and moody....

South Korean movie stars rally against screen cuts.

SEOUL, South Korea - South Korean movie stars rallied Saturday night against a proposed free trade agreement between their country and the United States amid the start of reduced protections for the domestic film industry. About a dozen actors including Choi Min-shik, who starred in the Cannes award-winning film "Oldboy," actress Jeon Do-yeon, movie industry workers, academics and some 3,000 supporters gathered in a park in central Seoul for a rally denouncing the U.S. and South Korean governments as well as the American movie industry. "We refuse to surrender to the unjustifiable demands of the United States," Kim Min-woong, a professor of social science and theology at Sungkonghoe University, told the rally. "We will not kneel down before the Hollywood giant." The focus of the protester's anger is a government measure announced in January - the so-called screen quota system - that cuts the required number of domestic films shown annually in the nation's cinemas....
