| | | Who's the leader of the club? EMP | | Posted Saturday, November 04, 2006 11:30:01 AM by Blog57 Team | | Anyone who's ever had "It's a Small World" stuck in his head knows how indelible Disney music can be. A new exhibit, opening today at Experience Music Project and running until next September, burbles with chirpy tunes and catchy lyrics from the first black-and-white Disney cartoons to the most recent multimillion-dollar stage production. Painted the same bright yellow as Mickey Mouse's shoes and peppered with interactive, old-fashioned nickelodeon-style kiosks, the ambitious exhibit attempts to appeal to all generations. It begins with videos, hand-scored music and pencil-drawn story boards from the 1930s, and ends with an homage to Walt Disney Records' ability to churn out mini pop-stars. Disney's first pop-darling, Annette Funicello, is featured alongside a running video of preteen Mouseketeers Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears, wearing refreshingly innocent jumpsuits.... | |

| | | More family movies wanted at new theater | | Posted Thursday, October 12, 2006 3:03:16 PM by Blog57 Team | | Over the weekend, Oct. 7, my daughter and I went to see the new movie theater at the Colony Square Mall. What great seats, movie screen and sounds were awesome? My daughter was so amazed that she can put butter on her own popcorn and as much as she wants. Just think 12 huge screens and great seats, only one problem, one PG movie playing last weekend and this coming weekend. Maybe we could add two or three movies so families can have a choice of what to see in a two-week period. Fawn Gutridge Mount Perry .... | |

| | | AOL Scores Movie Deals | | Posted Thursday, August 24, 2006 9:02:34 PM by Blog57 Team | | AOL announced this morning it had signed deals with most of the major studios to sell movies for $9.99 to $19.99. The deal is significant because of its breadth, flexibility, and cheapness. AOL will offer 20th Century Fox, NBC Universal, Sony, and Warner Bros. Movies can be transferred to other PCs and compatible portable devices. Fox and Sony television content will also be available. This is a big score for AOL; the competition doesn't have it nearly as good. Studio-supported Movielink and CinemaNow do have a lot of variety but new movies will set you back at least $20. They've announced plans to allow DVD burning but only with select studios. Guba just made a splash by offering videos for $9.99 on the day they come out on DVD and half that for the old stuff. But it only has deals with Warner Bros.... | |

| | | OUT OF THE RED: Baby, it's hard to save with a new kid | | Posted Sunday, August 20, 2006 11:02:32 AM by Blog57 Team | | You find out you're having your first baby and couldn't be happier. Then you learn how much day care costs. At $800-$900 a month -- or, gasp, $9,600-$10,800 a year -- for infant care around uptown, you ask yourself: How do young families find the cash? It's a bittersweet situation many young couples -- my husband and me included -- find themselves in. Some couples decide one will stay at home because they'd barely have a paycheck left after day care. Day care adds to the already hefty tab of raising a child, which Bankrate.com estimates costs nearly $19,000 a year, excluding college savings costs. My husband, Jefferson, also a journalist, and I both intend to work after our first child arrives in December. We love our jobs and worked hard for our careers.... | |

| | | New movies boost Filipino films’ happiness quotient | | Posted Thursday, August 03, 2006 5:17:10 AM by Blog57 Team | | DONT BE put-off by its insipid title. Jose Javier Reyes latest production is one of the better local movies this film season -- and Seiko Films most successful cinematic effort in years: After a seemingly petty argument, Mameng (Gloria Romero) suddenly packs up her bags and leaves Ely (Eddie Garcia) barely two months before their 50th wedding anniversary. The unexpected development turns the couples household upside down, and discombobulates their three children -- Jun (Joey Marquez), a recently widowed dentist; Rory (Cherry Pie Picache), a non-confrontational homemaker with a two-timing husband, George (Christian Vazquez), and the stubbornly-independent Tish (Diana Zubiri), whos been living with Ken (Alfred Vargas) for two years. But, the riotous frenzy doesnt stop there: While Mameng basks in the joys of independence (she discovers the gym, learns texting and ballroom dancing, and travels to Bangkok), and Ely rediscovers the cheap thrills of his newfound bachelorhood (he later brings home Cristy -- played by the delightful, scene-stealing Keanna Reeves -- the kooky paramour he meets at a girlie club), Jun, Rory and Tish are forced to confront their respective battles at home while they try to patch things up for their squabbling folks.... | |

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) will transfer surveillance operations from Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center, an iconic Cold War venue depicted in such movies as "War Games" and "The Sum of All Fears," to an office building a dozen miles away at Peterson Air Force Base. .... | |

| | | Vongo offers buffet of mobile movies | | Posted Wednesday, July 12, 2006 1:03:49 PM by Blog57 Team | | PHILADELPHIA - As an avid movie fan and a frugal consumer, I've always preferred the all-you-can-watch buffet approach to renting movies over paying a la carte. That's what drove me to toss my video rental card and sign up with Netflix. But even the movies-in-the-mail service has a big drawback: Not having anything to watch because the DVD's still en route. So I got excited when I discovered an online movie service called Vongo from Starz Entertainment Group LLC. Other Internet-based services such as CinemaNow and Movielink let you download films, but they mainly charge by the title. Vongo's monthly fee of $9.99 lets me watch as many of its 1,600 movies as I want except for certain new releases, which are $3.99 per title. Films can be viewed on up to three computers, including those hooked up to a TV.... | |

| | | How is it composing music for period movies? | | Posted Saturday, July 08, 2006 11:05:18 AM by Blog57 Team | | Period movies give you a chance to learn and experiment. It also depends a lot on the director too - whether he wants the music of his movie according to the corresponding era or he is open to experimentation. Several musical instruments present today were absent in the past. But still we can use them for making music for a historical provided it sounds good. For example - the music in "Moulin Rouge" used drums and it sounded good. But, as I said, a lot depends on the director. It is heard that you have signed Bappi Lahiri to sing a song in "Guru"? Yes, Bappi Lahiri has sung a song for "Guru". I heard him sing at an award function and asked him to sing for "Guru". Moreover, the song is a Bengali number and Bappi sounds good in it. Is it true that you are a fan of new music sensation Himesh Reshammiya? Yes, I like one of his songs.... | |
